Although it’s been warm here during the daytime for quite some time the evenings are still cool.Yesterday’s high was near +10°C but temps dropped to below freezing late in the evening and there is a frost this morning. It is still winter for another few days so that is to be expected.

The warmer than normal weather is continuing and will be with us for the rest of the week.Today we may see near record breaking highs for this time of the year.

Today’s Weather Trivia:

17 March 2003: The ice thickness in the Upper Great Lakes approached 60 cm-greater than that of 1979, also a bad year. Officials deployed a powerful icebreaker in St. Mary's River and used an escort-convoy system for navigating early ships, the first time in 7 years. The ice cover finally thawed at the end of April. Further complicating matters, icebound channels blocked ice chunks from flowing downstream. – Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada
