12 February 2011 - Conditions at 7:34 AM: -10.4C, Mostly clear, Wind: ESE 21 km/h


After a very cold start,temps warmed up to near the freezing mark yesterday.There was a mix of sun and flurries.The flurries were quite intense by times but left no accumulation.The evening was mostly clear with temps dropping to near -10C.

It’s another cold start here this morning but temps are expected to be above freezing today.We are also expecting a few flurries today and tomorrow.Some stormy weather is on the way for Monday.

12 February 2009: At St-Lazare, QC, the roof of a stable collapsed under a heavy load of snow injuring a man and his 6 horses. Firefighters cut through the fallen timbers to rescue 3 horses; some suffered deep cuts and were spooked. The Crab Nebula stands high overhead in mid-evening. Small telescopes reveal a fuzzy blob of light with bright filaments that resemble the outline of a crab. The nebula is the debris from a once-mighty star that blasted itself to bits.

11 February 2011 - Conditions at 7:30 AM: -16.3C, Clear, Wind:W 10 km/h


Yesterday was a quiet day with a few flurries and temps near 0C for the day.The evening was clear with temps dropping to the double digits below 0.Overnight temps were near -15C,winds were light.

The next few days will see highs near the freezing mark and cold overnight temps.Only a few flurries are expected.

11 February 1951: An unprecedented 3-day downpour, over 300 mm in places, followed by 15 cm of snow, inundated parts of the Fraser Valley, BC, forcing hundreds to flee. 10 February 2011 - Conditions at 7:19 AM: -2.6C, Overcast w/ flurries, Wind: NNW 8 km/h


Yesterday started a bit on the chilly side but afternoon temps reached to near 0C and the winds died down making for a decent February day.The evening was generally clear and not too cold with temps only a few degrees below freezing.

A few flurries are expected over the next few days but,other than that,things will be uneventful in the weather dept for the next week.

Beta Pictoris, a star in the constellation Pictor, is visible low in the south from the far-southern United States. The star is surrounded by a disk of debris which appears to contain planets. Astronomers have taken a picture of one of the planets.

It was a bit messy here yesterday with some rain and then some wet snow.Temps were near +3C for the high and held there for most of the day.Temps droped overnight and the wind increased considerably.This morning it is quite cold with extreme windchills near -18C.

The cold weather will be with us until the weekend.

Andromeda descends the northeastern sky this evening, far to the right of the Moon. Among its many wonders is Upsilon Andromedae, a system of two stars and at least three planets that are similar to Jupiter, the giant of our own solar system.

Yesterday was another mild day here with afternoon temps well above freezing at +7C.Temps remained above freezing through the evening and overnight.

We are expecting some precip today and it looks like it will be rain here.Inland areas will see some snow.Colder air will move in later today and flurries are expected through the rest of the week.

7 February 2009: A huge ice floe 13 km long broke away from Lake Erie's shoreline, trapping more than 130 ice fishers. Rescuers lowered baskets onto the ice from helicopters. We had a very nice day here yesterday with temps hitting +8C for a high along with lots of sunshine.The evening saw clouds move in and some hail and freezing rain began to fall near midnight but quickly changed to rain.

It is currently raining and very windy.The rain should end later this morning and temps will fall to near freezing later today.
