Yesterday was warmer than the previous few days and we had a few flurries
that left a little snow on the ground.There was little change in the evening
and overnight temps were only a couple of degrees below freezing.We're
expecting a few flurries today and reasonable temperatures.

2003: A British Columbia judge ruled that a man suing the city of Kamloops
for his fall on an icy sidewalk had no leg to stand on. He wrote: "Ice is a
natural hazard of Canadian winters. It can form quickly and unexpectedly ...
Slippery walks can never be completely prevented ... [as it] would be
prohibitively expensive." All parties being sued acted reasonably to protect
the public, he said.

1950: A snowstorm hit British Columbia¿s lower mainland and Vancouver
Island. The snow was so deep in places that 1000 sawmill workers were idled
across the province. Trains were 5-10 hours late. What seemed to have no
trouble getting through the blockade were trucks toting liquor, much to the
relief of mining communities. Brutal cold followed with temperatures dipping
to -50°C at Prince George, BC.

1922: Stripped of her sails, iced-up, and unmanageable, the schooner
Alexandra, carrying a cargo of fish, was driven ashore near Ingonish, NS.
Because the blinding snow prevented hope of rescue, in desperation, the
master tied a line to his waist, jumped into the icy water, and fought his
way to shore. Luckily, the howling blizzard ceased for a spell, and the
master was able to drag his crew to safety.

Yesterday was wet and windy in the morning.Our area received only rain from
the storm that dumped some snow across the province,albeit much less than
what was forecast.There were a few flurries throughout the afternoon and
evening and ,as the temps dropped ,the wind didn't making for some rather
cold windchill values.It is still very windy and quite cold this
morning.Temps will remain on the minus side for today but will begin to rise
overnight.New Year's Day is expected to be mostly sunny with a few
flurries.The rest of the week is expected to see temps in the normal range
with a few passing flurries.No accumulation is anticipated.

We had a pretty decent day here yesterday….the calm before the storm.Temps
were near the freezing mark for the day and dropped to slightly below in the
early evening.My mid-evening the temps began to rise and by midnight we were
above freezing.Not sure what time the storm started here but the wind and
rain woke me up around 5:30.There is NO snow in my area but it is very windy
and raining quite hard.The stormy conditions will persist for most of
today,clearing late tonight and we're looking at a mix of sun and cloud with
cooler temps for tomorrow.

Today's weather trivia: 30 December


1910: A 3-day storm raged across southern and central Saskatchewan claiming
several victims. Many homesteaders lost their way and perished. Their bodies
were found a week later, frozen not far from the beaten trail. Three
children from Yellowgrass going to their grandparents were caught in the
blizzard. Searchers found the young boy dead, but his 2 sisters huddled next
to him survived.
