 Today's weather trivia: 2 March 2009: The Saint John, NB, area endured
another snowy day a week after a record snowfall buried the region. Crews
had just enough time between snowstorms to clean the sidewalks, widen
streets, and trim snowbanks. Streets were clogged with so much snow that
ploughs had to lead fire trucks and ambulances on their emergency calls.

could neither shower nor flush due to frozen pipes. The city's thawing and
steam machines worked overtime to fix the problem, the worst since 1994 when
pipes froze in 2,500 homes and businesses. Since January 1, there had been
24 cold days (compared to 1 in 2002 and 1 report of frozen pipes); average
is 15 days. Letting taps run slightly prevents freeze-ups.

stunning view of Niagara Falls (ON). Huge rocks below the American Falls,

above Table Rock was a dry, solid bed of rock; and Horseshoe Falls had lost
2/3rds of its water and looked like an ordinary millpond.

 Today's weather trivia: 26 February 2006: A 60-year temperature record was
broken in Iqaluit, NU, as temperatures rose to a balmy 5.7°C. Pangnirtung on
the Arctic Circle peaked at 8.7°C at a time of year when the normal high is
-21°C. Instead of shovelling snow, people tried coping with rain and icy
roads. February rains occurred only 3 times since 1946, with the last
mid-winter downpour recorded in 1986.

 Today's weather trivia: 25 February 1926: Afternoon rains fell in Dundas,
ON. An hour or two later, residents were astonished to see hundreds of small
fish on the ground. The majority were the size of small fry and resembled
pickerel or whitefish fry. Eyewitnesses said the creatures did not come from
the sewers, nor were they washed from the town's creek because it was
frozen. Most were satisfied the fish fell with the rain from the sky.

 Today's weather trivia: 24 February 2003: The temperature in Winnipeg, MB,
dipped to -35.9°C, the coldest day that winter. At Scoopy Doo Canine Waste
Removal, business was picking up. Calling them poopsicles, the owner said,
"It's actually easier to clean ... because it's so frozen you just whack it
out ... like a golf ball." Extreme cold often causes water-main breaks;
owners must pay to free their car from ice caused by a break.
