Better Today

This blog is usually published by 9AM local time and is sometimes updated through the day.

This morning's photo:

Yesterday was a very rainy and windy day here in NS.Temps were a few degrees above freezing and a good portion of the snow that arrived Sunday night has melted. There's still a couple of centimeters on the ground and lots of slush along the roadways. This saturated snow was very heavy and hard to move.

The wind mostly died out in the evening and the precip tapered to a light drizzle.Temps were near the freezing mark and are expected to stay there today with a big increase on the way for tomorrow. That should make most of the snow disappear...here's hoping.

This blog is usually published by 9AM local time and is sometimes updated through the day.

This morning's photo:

It was cold here for most of yesterday....make that ALL of yesterday. When the temp did begin to rise, the wind picked up,so it actually felt colder. It started snowing in the early evening and we were up to -4 by midnight.By then the roads were covered and it was still snowing quite steadily.Conditions at that time were very much like a blizzard:

Early this morning the snow changed to freezing rain and the wind increased even more.Road conditions are reported as very bad and all area schools are closed.

Currently,I have about 10 cms of snow, completely saturated with water,on my back steps. The wind has brought down a few small branches,no power failures in this are so far.

Conditions are not expected to improve until later today.

This morning's photo:

Saturday was another cold day here on the South Shore of NS....actually it was quite cold in all of Canada. It was a little warmer than Friday but I still saw a max of only -7°.Once again it was sunny, calm and clear but that is about to change. There's some inclement weather on the way and it should arrive later today or tomorrow.Along with that,it will be warmer as we are expecting the temps to be above freezing and that will be very welcome. We're getting too soft here and don't care for the seriously cold temps anymore!

There's nothing happening here yet this morning and today really shouldn't be too bad until later. The forecast has a wind warning and 5-10 cms of snow and ice in it before the change over to rain overnight.
