Yesterday was a cool day with flurries.There was a brief period of sunshine
late in the day but the evening was cloudy with more flurries.Temps were
cold overnight.
Today is expected to be mainly sunny but cool.Flurries are on the way for
tomorrow and later next week winter may throw it's last,hopefully it's
last,bit of snow at us.

 Today's weather trivia: 16 March 1920: Search parties on snowshoes,
horseback, and in sleighs set out from St. Claude, MB, to find a labourer
missing in a blizzard for 3 days. Searchers gave up, but a farmer's son
continued following the footprints. He eventually found the victim's body,
lying against a snowbank, 30 m from a CPR right-of-way. His face was
completely hidden behind a thick, white mask of frozen snow.

Yesterday was pretty decent with sunshine and warm temps.The evening was
mostly clear,except for the area where PanStarrs is of course,and temps
dropped to the freezing point.We had a light dusting of snow overnight with
a little more expected today.
At this point the weekend looks like it will be mostly clear but cool.Some
messy weather is expected early next week.

Today..Periods of snow. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind becoming northwest
20 km/h this morning. High plus 1 with temperature falling to
minus 2 this afternoon.

 Today's weather trivia: 15 March 2003: This winter saw a record number of
frozen water-pipe breaks in Saskatoon, SK-184 since January 1, more than
double the previous 7-year average of 82. Crews worked 12- to 16-hour
shifts, 7 days a week, to repair the breaks. Frost normally penetrates to
1.5 m, but this year, it penetrated as deep as 2.1 m and deeper in some
places.

 Today's weather trivia: 14 March 2005: As hundreds of athletes from around
the world gathered in Dawson, YT, for sled dog and Nordic ski races, snow,
freezing rain, and gusty winds played havoc with the competition. If it
hadn't been for the volunteers who sat on the windows of the beer tent, it
would have become airborne. The finish line banner was cut down when it
looked like the supporting posts would lift out of the holes in the ice.

 Today's weather trivia: 13 March 1936: Spring floods across Quebec drown 11
people in 2 days. Near La Martine, 5 children from 6 months to 8 years in
age were swept away by a torrent of water. Their parents and 5 siblings
survived. Earlier, 4 members of another family disappeared at
St-Tite-des-Caps when floodwaters carried another house away. Water reached
over highways and rail lines, and crippled communications.

avalanche warnings for parts of Banff and Yoho national parks in the Rocky
Mountains. Mudslides, avalanches, and high winds closed area highways. A
snowboarder lost north of Lake Louise, AB, spent a night in a fierce
snowstorm before being found. The Canmore, AB, man took a wrong turn amid
heavy snowfall and ended up off course in a nearby valley.

 Today's weather trivia: 11 March 2007: Alternating cold and mild air
produced gigantic icicles on homes in and around St. John's, NL. Some of the
sharp, heavy stalactites were 2 m long (or more). Although too brittle to
inflict a fatal wound, falling icicles caused serious enough injuries to
send a number of people to emergency rooms. Homeowners and businesses are
legally liable for such injuries.

 Today's weather trivia: 10 March 2005: Residents of New Brunswick were
cleaning up after yesterday's huge winter storm. Winds gusting to more than
140 km/h knocked down power lines, tore the roofs from buildings in Saint
John, and blew trucks over. Fredericton got snow and heavy rain (25 mm);
Edmundston was rocked by 60 cm of snow. One resident noticed his barn was
missing; the next day it was found several metres down the street.
