Today’s Weather Trivia:

31 December 2004: In Manitoba, a 3-day storm dumped 33 cm of snow on the Winnipeg Winter Club's Bubble, an indoor-soccer dome. It was enough to collapse its roof and cancel, postpone, or reschedule more than 82 games. Before it could be mended, the dome's fabric had to thaw, but for that to happen, the outside temperature needed to warm up to -15°C, which occurred only 3 days in January.– Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada

Today’s Weather Trivia:

29 December 2004: About 30 cm of new snow, a weak snowpack, and rain created dangerous avalanche conditions in the Rockies. North of the Whitewater Ski (BC) area, fog and freezing rain prevented a rescue helicopter from gaining much height, delaying the rescue of 3 lost backcountry skiers. They dug a cave to wait out the fog; low cloud foiled their attempt to leave so they built a fire to keep warm.
