It was a beautiful day here yesterday with lots of sunshine and warm
temps.There were a few cloudy periods through the late afternoon but nothing
developed from them.The evening was clear,calm and warm.
It is quite warm here already this morning and today and tomorrow are
expected to be much like yesterday.There is still no precip expected until
Monday.

1925: An intense lightning storm in central Ontario was at its worst along
the Spanish River. While driving their animals to shelter, 2 men from
Sudbury were struck by a bolt of lightning. It killed one man instantly. The
other was blinded and doctors doubted he would recover his sight. Close by,
another man escaped uninjured, but the single bolt killed 4 horses and
several cattle.

It was another nice day here on the south shore yesterday with afternoon
temps in the mid 20Cs and light winds.The sky was mainly clear all day and
into the evening.Some light fog moved in in the late evening.
It is all clear here this morning and the next 3 days are expected to be
sunny with mid 20C temps.There is no precip expected until early next week.

1912: The Regina cyclone, Canada's worst tornado, also swept across rural
districts. Killing 28 people, it picked up buildings like paper boxes and
smashed them into kindling wood-traces of them were found miles away. Even
cement foundations were ground into powder. In was reported that the tornado
grabbed a woman, stripped off her clothes, even removing her shoes, and
carried her 150 m.

other than a possibility of a few showers on Saturday.

1955: Heavy rain caused substantial damage in Winnipeg, MB. Backed-up sewers
turned streets into small lakes and flooded virtually every basement in Fort
Garry and St. Boniface, some to a depth of nearly 1 m. Disrupted phone
service left an expectant mother about to deliver so desperate that she ran
into the storm and pulled the corner fire alarm. Response was swift and she
was soon in hospital.

We had a very warm day here yesterday with temps reaching to near +30C.The
official temps were much lower,as they always are at this time of the
year,because they are taken on the coast even though they are reported
as being the Liverpool temps.Temps remained very mild through the evening
and were still near 20C at midnight.A drop of a few degrees happened through
the overnight hours.
Today is expected to be another very warm day here in Liverpool and the
highs will again be near 30C.A few showers are expected tomorrow and then
it's back to sunshine for most of the long holiday weekend.

1915: Heavy rains in Edmonton caused the North Saskatchewan River to
overflow its banks. The river rose 11 m above the low-level mark and drove
nearly 2,500 residents from their homes, destroying 60 houses and a lumber
company. Chicken coops, barns, and shacks were swept away. Authorities saved
the half-built 105th Street bridge by parking 14 railroad coal cars over the
superstructure.

1919: A tornado travelled from Guernsey to Quill Lake, SK, killing 2 women
when their separate houses blew to bits. At Guernsey, it destroyed a pool
hall, curling rink, garages, barns, and blacksmith shop. At Quill Lake, 3
elevators disappeared and the Church of England building lay on its side. A
barn housing a dog and a horse flew 30 m. The animals were uninjured.

2005: Calgary, AB, experienced its biggest butterfly boom as thousands of
the painted lady species made their largest migration north in over 20
years. From 10 to 100 times more of the species occurred throughout the
province this year. A butterfly expert at the Calgary Zoo explained that
weather systems that brought the city so much rain in June also blew in the
butterflies from the south.
