1950: Waves driven by gale-force winds smashed small boats and carried the
cottages of at least 500 Crescent Beach residents (near Hamilton, ON) into
Lake Ontario. Toronto received 30 cm of snow (Kitchener, Cambridge, and
Guelph got more), while winds uprooted trees, which injured more than 60
residents, half of them children, and blew down 100 m of hydro wire, causing
a blackout in one area.
