1851: A disastrous gale swept over Lake Erie, costing numerous lives. The
brig Christina of Sarnia was thrown on her beam ends, and when boarded the
corpse of the captain was found lashed to the mast. Nine crew members also
met a watery grave, but the vessel's cargo was saved.
