It wasn’t a bad day here yesterday,the high on my thermometer was +6.5°C and there was a fair bit of sunshine,and then in the early evening the snow started.The snow rate increased through the evening and was quite heavy by midnight.So far we have about 10cms down,maybe more,and it is still snowing.All schools are canceled and the street here doesn’t look too good for traveling at the present time.

The following snowfall warning was issued earlier this morning:

‘A low pressure system centered just east of Halifax will slowly approach Cape Breton today and will stall just northeast of Cape Breton tonight. Snow at times heavy along with local blowing snow can be expected for all regions early this morning with the snow expected to diminish in intensity later this morning. Total snowfall amounts from this system are expected to be in the 15 to 20 cm range.’

Periods of snow and local blowing snow ending near noon then cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries. Amount 5 to 10 cm. Wind north 40 km/h gusting to 60 becoming northwest 30 late this morning. High plus 1.

Cloudy periods with 30 percent chance of flurries. Wind west 20 km/h. Low minus 1.

Thursday

A few flurries changing to a few rain showers in the afternoon. Wind west 20 km/h. High plus 2.

Friday

Cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries. Low zero. High plus 2.

17 February 1952:2008: The weather observer at Chetwynd, BC, heard a commotion in her goat shed while she was taking her 4:00 PM observation. As she steadied the goat, she was attacked by a wolf, which chomped on her arm and pulled hard. She got away and phoned a neighbour, who shot the intruder.
