Todays' Weather Trivia:
7 February 1920: The hardest cold in 35 years created heavy ice along Newfoundland's northeast coast. The Prospero was ice jammed for 5 weeks, 10 km from Fogo, short of food and with no help from land due to bad weather. Nearby, 2 other steamers were stuck for 4 weeks, almost submerged by ice at times. Inland, blocked railways left settlements and lumber camps facing famine and horses suffering greatly.--Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada
