Today's weather trivia: 16 October
1862: A German architect, famous for building ice palaces in St. Petersburg,
Russia, proposed erecting one on the St. Lawrence River, at Montreal, QC, as
a tourist attraction. It would be 13 m high, 50 m long, 20 m deep, and all
ice, except windows and doors. Rooms, including a ballroom, would be heated
by stoves and warranted not to melt. It would be built in 4 weeks, for about
$3,500.
