Today's Weather Trivia:

June 7,2004: Strong winds and high seas defeated a champion sailor from Switzerland who was leading a prestigious race from Portsmouth, England, to Boston, MA. About 700 km from Newfoundland, the keel of his 15-m-long vessel broke in 3- to 4-m seas, with 35-knot winds and limited visibility. His boat flipped, but he was rescued by an oil tanker. Of the top 5 boats in the race, 3 had keel failures.   Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada
