Currently:+18°C,partly clear,calm - Bill Approaching

We enjoyed another warm and humid day here yesterday with afternoon temps once again reaching to near +30°C.The evening was also quite warm and humid and generally clear.Overnight some light clouds moved into the area.Today and tomorrow are expected to remain warm and humid as Hurricane Bill approaches and ‘he’ will be the ‘weather maker’ on Sunday.

The 2 day forecast:

  • Today

Sunny. Becoming a mix of sun and cloud this morning.

High 31. UV index 8 or very high.

  • Tonight

Cloudy periods. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h this evening.

Low 23.

  • Saturday

A mix of sun and cloud. Wind southwest 20 km/h.

High 28.

Hurricane Bill continues to make it’s way towards Nova Scotia.Currently it is approx 2000kms south of Yarmouth and is at H3 strength. It is expected to start producing ocean swells and high surf here today. At it’s current forward speed and track we won’t be seeing the wind and rain here until late Saturday/early Sunday. All indications are that it will stay offshore but still will be a Cat 2 when it is closest to us.

Unfortunately,a good portion of the population, and some media, seem to be concerned with the ‘eye’.The winds from Bill will be at hurricane strength about 300km from the eye and Bill is expected to pass us at only ~150km offshore. An extended period of high winds, torrential rains and possible flooding should be expected by all in this area. The storm is still 2 days away, defined watches and warnings will be issued as it gets closer. Those with interests in this area will find official info here: http://www.atl.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurricane/hurricanes.rss.en

On my end, there will be a hi-res live cam available for viewing Bill at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/hurricane-bill-cam

The cam will be online from early Sunday and through the storm…..for as long as we have power, that is.This area is quite prone to power outages during small storms. How long we will have power during Bill is anybody’s guess.
