Snowing

The above photo is the view from the front window of my den at publication time.

We had a fairly decent day here yesterday with temps around the freezing mark, some sunshine and very little wind. The flurries that were forecast didn't happen here. The evening temp was only down to -3°C and it was calm. The leftovers from the storm on Friday, however, have frozen and most yards and driveways are coated with a slippery skim of ice.I can only imagine what the dirt roads must be like presently.

I have been reading that it is very cold in the west and,OMG!!,it's even getting cold in the 'center of the universe'(aka,Toronto,Ont.).

From the CTV website:

' Newfoundland is bracing for another winter blast Saturday as parts of the Avalon Peninsula are expected to receive at least 35 centimetres of accumulated snow.

A low-pressure system developing east of South Carolina will track northeastward overnight bringing snow to Newfoundland by Sunday morning.

A winter storm warning has been issued for the Burin Peninsula, the North and South Avalon Peninsula, Clarenville and the Bonavista Peninsula.

"Snowsqualls can be expected to give local snowfall accumulations of up to 25 centimetres today and tonight. Visibility will be reduced to near zero at times," Environment Canada's website reads.

Moving farther west, Environment Canada issued wind chill and snowfall warnings for areas throughout Western Canada on Saturday.

An Arctic high-pressure ridge in Saskatchewan is creating a cold northwesterly flow over Manitoba, producing wind chills in the -40 C to -45 C range, the weather office reports.

Wind chill warnings are in effect for the Killarney, Portage La Prairie, Selkirk, Steinbach, and Brandon areas of Manitoba.(I have a brother who lives in Portage La Prairie.I'm sure he's just loving this.-ed) While farther north, the Tadoule Lake, Leaf Rapids and Gillam areas are also being warned about the extreme cold.

In British Columbia, a Pacific weather system prompted Environment Canada to issue a snowfall warning for several areas.

"The system is expected to give total snowfall accumulations up to 15 cm to Prince George, McGregor and Williston and total snowfall amounts near 10 cm over the B.C. south Peace River by this afternoon," the weather office's website reported Saturday.

Snowfall warnings have also been issued for Hinton, Whitecourt, Fox Creek and Grande Prairie, Alta.'

I also heard a horrific story about a stray cat in Saskatchewan found frozen to the ground under a car.Thankfully he was rescued and is being looked after. If I can find the associated arcticle I will post it later.

I would imagine that some of that cold weather will soon be influencing our weather. As far as I'm concerned,it can take it's time getting here. There are some colder temps on the way, according to the forecast, but nothing that is too extreme.....yet!

This morning we are getting some light snow.Currently there is a couple of centimeters on the ground with 5 to 10 forecast.
