22 February 2009: Hundreds watched from a frozen Baddeck Bay as a former Canadian astronaut flew a Silver Dart replica into the air on the 100th anniversary eve of the historic flight. Conditions were perfect for 5 separate flights over a 1,000 m runway on the ice-covered lake. The Big Dipper wheels high across the north on winter nights. It is low in the northeast in early evening, standing on its handle, and high in the northwest at first light. It's led by Dubhe, the star at the outer edge of the bowl.
