Today’s Weather Trivia:
14 July 2004: Torrential rainfall, ranging from 100 to 240 mm, swamped Peterborough, ON, and dropped a phenomenal 14 billion litres of water on the downtown area, enough water to flow over Niagara Falls in about 40 minutes or to fill almost 9 SkyDomes. It was one of the wettest Canadian days ever east of the Rocky Mountains-a 1-in-200-year event, with the early estimate of insured losses exceeding $88 million. – Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada

Sky Events:
• International Space Station: Next visible sighting(s):NONE
• Look for the planet Venus to the upper right of the crescent Moon this evening. Venus is the brilliant "evening star." The true star Regulus is to the lower right of Venus, completing a beautiful triangle in the western evening sky. – [Star Date Online]

• AURORA (‘Northern Lights’) WATCH: High latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras on July 14th and 15th. NOAA forecaster's estimate a 50% chance of geomagnetic activity on those dates, when a solar wind stream is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field.
