Yesterday was a very cold day here with temps getting up only to about
-10C.The wind was gusty for most of the day causing windchill values to be
in the lower minus teens.Along with the cold weather there was also about 10
cms of snow in the morning.It is still quite cold here this morning but
temps are on the rise and are expected to be above freezing to day.Some snow
and rain is also expected over today and tomorrow.



Today's Forecast:
Today..Increasing cloudiness. Flurries beginning this morning then
changing to rain showers this afternoon. Snowfall amount 2 cm. Wind
west 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming southwest 40 gusting to 60 this
morning. High plus 4.
Tonight..Rain showers becoming mixed with flurries near midnight and
ending overnight then cloudy. Rainfall amount 2 to 4 mm. Wind

 Today's weather trivia: 19 January 1950: Neighbours and police searched the
nearby river in Guelph, ON, fearing a 2-year-old girl was lost. While search
plans were being made, her father took a last walk around the farm and found
his daughter huddled in the snow, cold and very angry that her glove had
gotten caught in a fence on her farm home. Had she been there much longer,
she would have frozen to death.

Yesterday was quite mild and most of the snow from Wednesday melted
away.Another bunch of snow has moved into the area today,scis forecast.We
have schools are canceled and roads are reported to be slippery.The snow is
supposed to end by noon and only 5 cms is forecast….we have at least that
much already.More snow and rain is expected over the weekend but temps will
be warmer than they are today.

Today..Periods of snow ending near noon then clearing. Amount 5 cm.

Local blowing snow this afternoon. Wind north 20 km/h gusting to 40

becoming northwest 30 gusting to 50 near noon. Temperature steady

near minus 9.

Tonight..A few clouds. Local blowing snow this evening. Wind

northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming southwest 20 near midnight.

Low minus 11 with temperature rising to minus 7 by morning.

Saturday..Becoming cloudy in the morning with flurries changing to

periods of rain mixed with snow in the afternoon. Snowfall amount

2005: Southwestern BC's cold spell came to an abrupt end in a "tropical
punch" featuring days of torrential rain. The Lower Mainland and Vancouver
Island experienced heavy flooding as more than 127 mm of rain fell in some
areas over 24 hours. Catch basins and ditches overflowed. A mudslide swept a
house off the lower slope of Mount Seymour, killing a woman.

Yesterday's snow showed up as forecast and left 5 to 10 cms before it moved
on.Temps were near 0 here on the coast during the 'storm' and there were
some ice pellets at times.More flurries and periods of light snow are on the
way for the next few days.Accumulations are expected to be slight.There is a
possibility of a significant snow event early next week.More info on that to
follow over the next few days.

1907: A cold, stormy period on Canada's Pacific coast left citizens angry
with Mother Nature for daily shipwrecks, flooding, stranded tugboats, trees
falling on houses, stalled trains, downed telegraph wires, and the effects
of extreme cold (-16.7°C). On this day, the liquid in a Vancouver, BC,
soda-pop factory's machinery froze and pipes burst, while filled bottles
exploded; damage was $1,500.
