The Heat Continues But Rain On The Way

Well the past week was again crazily hot here....along with high humidity and high UV indexes. Most afternoons had temps reaching 40°C or more in my backyard.
We are still badly in need of rain having had only a few showers during the past week even when the weatherman was calling for more. There is a chance that we may get some this week....another tropical storm,Christobal,is forecast to com
e near our southern coast, aka my area,on Tuesday.Even if we have to endure tropical storm force winds it will be worth it to get some rain before everything here dries up.It's too early in the summer for us to be in this state and there's lots of hot weather yet to come.
If anything transpires from the storm I will update the blog.Meanwhile, check the cams for a look at the weather outside my window.

Have a great week.

TROPICAL FORCE WINDS BEGINNING GEORGE
S BANK TUESDAY MORNING AND
SPREADING NORTHEASTWARD THROUGH THE DAY.

5. TECHNICAL DISCUSSION
A. ANALYSIS
WILMINGTON RADAR COMBINED WITH OFFSHORE BOUYS GIVE GOOD IDEA
OF POSITION. CONVECTION ON SAT PIX NOT
WELL ORGANISED EXCEPT
FOR SUDDEN BLOSSOMING JUST SOUTH OF CENTRE AT 03 ZULU.
QUICKSCAT AND ASCAT DID NOT SCAN OVER CRISTOBAL.

B. PROGNOSTIC
LITTLE CHANGE IN FORECAST TRACK. AS MENTIONED
CRISTOBAL IS EMBEDDED IN A BROAD UPPER RIDGE. THIS RIDGE LIES
ROUGHLY ALONG THE 28 NORTH LATITUDE SO THIS SHOULD NUDGE THE
SYSTEM SLOWLY INTO THE UPPER LATITUD
ES. WESTERLIES
KICK IN AT 40 NORTH. UPPER TROUGH DOES NOT APPROACH UNTIL
MONDAY MORNING SO AT THAT TIME WE SHOULD BEGIN TO GET A
GOOD HANDLE ON CRISTOBAL AS IT GETS CAUGHT UP IN THE UPPER WINDS
AND ACCELERATES NORTHEASTWARD. CRISTOBAL WILL CROSS THE NORTH WALL
OF THE GULF STREAM MONDAY EVENING SO WEAKENING IS A CERTAINTY
THEREAFTER.

C. PUBLIC WEATHER
A WARM FRONT WILL CAUSE RAIN ON MONDAY FOR NOVA SCOTIA. WITH
TROPICAL MOISTURE FEEDING INTO FRONTAL SYSTEM ON TUESDAY.. WE
EXPECT MUCH THE SAME FOR TUESDAY WITH LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS.

D. MARINE WEATHER
WILL PUT GALE FORCE WINDS INTO MARINE E
XTENDED FORCAST FOR
SOUTHWESTERN WATERS OF THE MARITIME MARINE DISTRICT.

Still Hot and Humid

Yesterday was quite hot and humid.Today it will be the same,or hotter, and the trend is expected to persist for the next 4 or 5 days.
Rain is still badly needed here and the situation is getting worse.I don't have a garden but every night I go in search of dandelion greens for my domesticated 'rodents'....rabbit,guinea pig and chinchilla....and they are getting harder to find.Nothing is growing. It must be a real battle for the farmers right now to keep their gardens from burning up.
The forecast:
Today..Sunny. High 28 except 22 along parts of the coast. UV index 8
or very high.
Tonight..Clear. Increasing cloudiness overnight. Fog patches
developing near midnight. Low 14.
Thursday..Clearing in the morning. Fog patches dissipating in the
morning. High 27 except 21 along parts of the coast.

Hot,Hot,Hot!

The past week was extremely hot here. The high temps for the first part of the week were near 40°C with lots of humidity. The latter part or the week was somewhat better with temps in the mid to upper 20s and less humidity.
It is still very dry,we had a brief period of rain on Thursday morning, and there is now an open fire ban in effect.Lots of people using wells are either ou
t of water or using it sparingly.TS Bertha became a hurricane as it increased in strength and is currently diminishing near Bermuda and will have no effect on our area.
There is no sigificant rainfall expected this week.Showers are possib
le on Monday and Tuesday and then it's back into the cooker for the rest of the week.
This week's forecast:

The weather was great for the Privateer Days festival and the fireworks finale was spectacular. The temp at the waterfront at that time was a comfortable 22°C.

Update--Sunday July 6

Well, the forecast was wrong....it is 39C in my backyard currently.Temp being reported from the weather station is 14C.That's quite a differnce in a few short kms.

First Week Of July '08

Last week was,for the most part, warm and sometimes quite humid.Sunday and Monday were a little cool and wet but it cleared for the holiday on Tuesday and the rest of the week was dry except for a breif shower on Thursday.Tuesday and Wednesday were the hottest with temps reaching the upper 30sC.

Wednesday's high on my thermometer:

The forecast for this week is for quite warm temps and very little precip:

Tropical storm Bertha is now brewing in the mid-Atlantic.Whether or not that will make it here is yet to be seen.

Weekly Update - June 29

I kind of left things slide here on the blog this past week.It has been very hot and humid and I have been busy.I am thinking that I will just do a weekly recap at the end of each week for the summer unless a huge weather event is in the offing.
The past week was extremely hot with a lot of humidity up until Friday.Thursday was the hottest with afternoon temps hitting 40°C on my backyard thermometer. It began cooling down overnight on Thursday with some rain and Friday was mostly cloudy with the high only a little above 20°C.Saturday was much the same.
The rain was badly needed. There were quite a few woods fires in the province with one being not far from here. All are out now.
It is raining and a cool 13°C so far today. The rain is expected to stay with us until the mid-week and then it's back to sunshine and hot weather. Some of the local Canada Day activities on Tuesday may be rained out.The big annual event for Liverpool,Privateer Days, begins here on Thursday.I'll snap some pics of that for inclusion in the next entry.- ©Al C 2008
