The Report For Monday,Jan 7,2008

Temperature readings in Canada are measured in Celcius.
Celcius to Fahrenheit formula

Yesterday was quite mild here with temps above freezing and lots of sun for most of the day. Those conditions sure put a beating on the ice that was in my driveway and most of it is now gone. The wind was also mostly calm throughout the day.
There's nothing in the forecast for this week to get excited about except for the warm temps expected. We should be seeing double digit Celcius readings on a couple of days....the January thaw?Maybe, but we really didn't have a freeze yet.Having said that, conditions are currently similar to what they were last year during this period.Check out my notes for Jan 2007,on Weather Underground, here.
The temps stayed mild through the evening and I was still reading +3 on my thermometer at 7PM.They dropped to a little below freezing through the evening and overnight, the wind remained calm.
It's a little foggy here this morning and today looks like it will be similar to yesterday with the mild weather to continue until week's end.

The Weather Report From Hoptoad Hill (near Liverpool,NS)

Temperature readings in Canada are measured in Celcius. Celcius to Fahrenheit formula

Lots of people consider Canada to be cold and snowy most of the time and that is not the case at all...especially here.Besides being used as a 'personal weather diary',that is one of the reasons I have been blogging about the weather in this area for a couple of years now and recently started this new blog on Blogspot.Eventually we'll get the message across (just joking!!!).Anyways, for those who don't already know,Nova Scotia also has some very hot weather in the summer months and our Autumns are the epitome of perfect weather.Keep following this blog and you'll find out exactly how our seasons are on the south shore of Nova Scotia via an eye witness account.Feel free to also drop in a comment or ask a question.I'd be pleased to hear from you.

It was generally overcast here yesterday but the temps were not too bad at slightly +/- 0 for the day. That temp, even though some may call it cold,is so much better than the -17 we had the other morning. That, folks,is cold with a capital 'C'!
The temps only went down to -4 in the evening and overnight.Today is expected to be above normal here.

The Weather Report From Hoptoad Hill (near Liverpool,NS)

Temperature readings in Canada are measured in Celcius. Celcius to Fahrenheit formula

Yesterday started out very cold here on the south shore of Nova Scotia. My thermometer was showing a cold -18 at sun up....thankfully there was very little wind. The temps rose throughout the day and reached a seasonal normal high of -5°.The temps held close to that through the evening and were only down to -7 by midnight.A warming trend is on the way with highs in the plus double digits expected by the end of next week. Those temps are very unusual for here in Jan and it will be interesting to see if that prediction holds.
Unlike other parts of Atlantic Canada we have no snow cover here presently and it looks like we won't have any for awhile. This morning it is much warmer than yesterday and the forecast is for a little snow this evening changing to rain overnight.

Jan 3,2008
Temperature readings in Canada are measured in Celcius. Celcius to Fahrenheit formula
While other areas of Atlantic Canada are buried in lots of snow that is not the case here at all.News reports have northern NS,most of NB and PE trying to dig out from a massive amount of snow with lots of wind making the task almost futile.
From the The Chronicle Herald (Jan 3,2008):
---'In Halifax, during the month of December, there were only five days in which the port city was free of any snowfall.'
----'In P.E.I., Summerside Police Chief David Poirier urged motorists to stay off the roads.
"Cruisers are on standby in case they are needed for emergencies, with plows available to get them to their destinations."
On the Island’s north shore, the winds were gusting at over 100 kilometres per hour.'
---'The high winds and blowing snow forced police to close a section of the Trans-Canada Highway near the border between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
The low, flat area known as the Tantramar Marsh is notorious for hazardous driving conditions during winter storms.'
---'The poor conditions forced the closure of some businesses, universities and colleges and kept flights grounded or delayed for much of the day in Moncton, Charlottetown, Halifax and St. John’s, N.L.'

We had a pretty good day here yesterday with temps just slightly below freezing and a few light flurries for the daylight hours. It was quite windy, also. Our biggest problem here currently is ice on alot of the dirt roads and driveways. The paved streets are all clear.Temps yesterday dropped to -8° in the evening and almost double that in the overnight. This morning it is mostly clear and the wind has died out considerably. There is no great deal of precip in the forecast and the cold air that moved in last night will be shortlived.A warmup is expected to begin on the weekend with temps forecast to be about 5°C above normal by Monday.

Happy New Year!!! If you've been following my blog previously on Weather Underground,or you're new to reading my weather blog now that it's here on Blogspot, stay tuned and follow the topsy turvey weather reports from southwestern Nova Scotia.Sometimes it gets interesting and extreme.
As an example, yesterday was a mixed bag of everything. We started out with snow and freezing rain which changed to all rain in the mid-morning.The rain continued until around 3PM and then we had a few brief moments of sunshine. The temps began to drop once the clearing began and we were at the freezing mark by 5PM.Throughout the evening we had a few light flurries with temps just slightly below 0.....that was much better than previous New Year's Eves when we had extremely cold weather, snow or freezing rain.Good weather on Dec 31/Jan 1 is not the norm for us.
This morning it is sunny and a little on the cool side but not bad for Jan 1,however,there's another bout of snow and rain in the forecast for tonight.

Temps -- high: 3.7 low: -2.2
