Wind warning for
Queens County continued

Northerly winds gusting to 100 km/h will develop this afternoon and diminish by evening.

A low pressure system just east of Cape Cod is forecast to intensify as it moves towards the Maritimes today. The storm will pass along the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia late this afternoon and track towards Newfoundland tonight.

Further rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 millimeters can be expected by this evening for most of Nova Scotia.

Winds are expected to strengthen throughout the day with coastal gusts reaching 100 km/h.

In addition higher than normal water levels and pounding surf can be expected along the western shore this afternoon. Elevated water levels are expected tonight along north facing coastlines of Pictou Antigonish counties including St Georges bay and Cape Breton.

A low pressure system along the eastern seaboard is forecast to intensify as
it moves towards the Maritimes tonight and Sunday.

Rain will develop tonight in the tri-county area and spread northeastward
overnight, reaching Cape Breton Sunday morning. Rainfall amounts of 50 to 70
millimeters can be expected by Sunday evening for most of Nova Scotia.
Strong easterly winds will develop ahead of this storm with gusts to 80 km/h
expected along coastal areas, winds will strengthen behind the low to 90
km/h from the northwest in the wake of the low.

Snowfall amounts of 5 cm are likely tonight.

A low pressure system will pass south of Nova Scotia tonight and
Friday morning. The onset of the steady precipitation will favor
cooling of the temperatures to just above the freezing mark this
evening over western regions and this trend will continue over
eastern sections during the night. The precipitation is expected to
change-over to snow over inland areas during the latter part of the
evening or overnight hours however rain is expected to continue over
coastal regions for much of the night. The precipitation is expected
to end Friday morning with rainfall amounts of 10 to 15 millimetres
expected along the coast and snowfall amounts in excess of 5 cm
inland.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as
warnings may be required or extended.
